    The short version: BasketChecker does not store your photos, your shopping lists, or any personal information. Photos are processed temporarily by AI to extract your list items and are immediately discarded. We hold no data about you.
  

Who we are

BasketChecker is a personal project operated by an individual based in the United Kingdom. It is a web application that helps you turn a photo of your shopping list into a basket at your chosen UK supermarket.

What data we collect

BasketChecker collects no personal data. Specifically:

Photos: When you upload or take a photo of your shopping list, it is sent securely to an AI service (Anthropic) to extract the list items. The photo is processed in transit and is never stored by us, Anthropic, or any other party.
Shopping list items: The items extracted from your photo or typed into the app exist only in your browser session. They are not saved, transmitted to us, or stored anywhere once you close the app.
No account data: BasketChecker does not require you to create an account. We hold no names, email addresses, passwords, or any other identifying information about our users.
No analytics or tracking: We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking or advertising tools.
No cookies: BasketChecker does not use advertising or tracking cookies. A service worker is installed to enable the app to load quickly — this stores only the app's own files, not any personal data.

How photos are processed

When you submit a photo, the following happens:

Your photo is compressed within your browser before being sent anywhere
It is transmitted securely (HTTPS) to our server function hosted on Cloudflare
Cloudflare passes the photo to Anthropic's Claude AI API for text extraction
Anthropic returns the extracted list items and the photo is discarded
The extracted items are returned to your browser and displayed on screen

At no point is the photo saved to any database, storage system, or server. Anthropic's API terms confirm they do not retain API inputs beyond the duration of the API call and do not use them for model training. You can read Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.

Third parties

BasketChecker uses the following third-party services to operate:

When you tap "Shop on [store]", you are taken to that supermarket's own website. From that point, the supermarket's own privacy policy applies. BasketChecker is not affiliated with Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons or Ocado.

Your rights under UK GDPR

As a UK-based service, BasketChecker is subject to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). You have the following rights:

Right of access: You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you. As we hold no personal data, there is nothing to provide.
Right to erasure: You can request deletion of your personal data. As we hold no personal data, there is nothing to delete.
Right to rectification: You can request correction of inaccurate personal data. As we hold no personal data, this does not apply.
Right to object: You can object to processing of your personal data. As we process no personal data beyond transient photo processing, this does not apply.

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of BasketChecker after changes are made constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
